Transfer of 40 Personnel, Including Police Inspector, in Traffic Cell Extortion Case

Thane: In a significant development, 40 officers and employees of the Mumbra traffic cell, including a police inspector, have been transferred to the headquarters following allegations of extortion involving the traffic branch warden intercepting heavy vehicle drivers in Mumbra Shilphata and extorting money from them. This action comes after footage of the alleged extortion was aired, sending shockwaves across the department.

The Mumbra Traffic Circle of Thane Traffic Control Branch, which oversees areas including Shilphata, Mumbra, Kharegaon, Mumbra Bypass, and Diwa, found itself under scrutiny
after reports surfaced of heavy vehicle drivers being stopped and coerced into paying bribes. The incident came to light when local news channels broadcasted footage capturing the illicit activity.

Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre took swift action upon learning of the allegations, directing Deputy Commissioner Vinay Kumar Rathod to initiate necessary measures. Consequently, all 40 officers and employees implicated in the case, including Police Inspector Suresh Khedekar, have been transferred to the headquarters pending further investigation.

This mass transfer marks a significant step towards addressing corruption within the transport department of the Thane police force. Meanwhile, Saadhan Chavan has been temporarily assigned to oversee operations at the Mumbra traffic cell amidst ongoing investigations.
