CBSE Proposes Major Changes to Class 10 and 12 Academic Structure

MUMBAI:  The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is considering substantial alterations to the academic framework for secondary and higher secondary education in India. The proposed changes aim to enhance the curriculum for Class 10 and Class 12 students.

For Class 10, the significant shift includes a move from studying two languages to three. However, the catch is that at least two of these languages must be native Indian languages. Currently, students are required to pass examinations in five subjects, but under the proposed changes, this number may increase to 10 subjects.

In a parallel move, changes for Class 12 involve students studying two languages instead of one. Similar to Class 10, at least one of these languages must be a native Indian language. Additionally, the proposal suggests that students in Class 12 would need to clear examinations in six subjects instead of the existing requirement of five to successfully graduate from high school.

These proposed modifications are aimed at providing a more comprehensive and diverse education experience for students, emphasizing the importance of native Indian languages in the curriculum. The CBSE intends to align the education system with evolving societal needs and prepare students for a broader skill set as they transition from school to higher education or the workforce. The proposals are yet to be finalized, and stakeholders, including educators, parents, and students, are likely to be consulted before any formal implementation.
