A Step-by-Step Guide: How to Obtain a Kunbi Certificate in Maharashtra

KALYAN:  Greetings, readers! Today, we bring you a comprehensive guide on how to acquire a Kunbi certificate in Maharashtra, shedding light on the essential documents and steps involved in the process. The Kunbi certificate, crucial for members of the Marathi community, has gained prominence due to the dedicated efforts of individuals like Manoj Jarange Patil, who spearheaded a movement advocating for its issuance.

To be eligible for a Kunbi caste certificate, your blood relative, born on or before October 13, 1967—be it your father, cousin, mother, grandfather, Panjoba, Khapar Panjoba, father's cousin, mother's cousin, grandfather's cousin, mother's cousin, Khandoba's cousin, or Khapar Panjoba's cousin or in-laws—must have caste proof establishing Kunbi lineage.

Manoj Jarange Patil, a key figure in the movement, initiated a significant campaign urging the Maharashtra government to grant Kunbi certificates to the Marathi community. On November 2, Patil concluded his hunger strike after receiving assurances from the government. Originally focused on securing Kunbi certificates for Maratha brothers in Marathwada, the movement evolved to encompass the entire state's Marathi brothers.

In response to the agitation, the Maharashtra government issued a Government Resolution (GR), acknowledging the necessity of Kunbi certificates for the broader Marathi community. The GR outlines a meticulous administrative examination, delving into the historical evidence from the Nizam period, genealogy, educational records, revenue documents, agreements from the Nizam era, charters from Nizam institutions, and national documents.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to obtain your Kunbi certificate:

Obtain the primary school leave certificate or school leaving certificate of your blood relatives and check for Kunbi entries.

Access the Tehsil Office of the village where your blood relative was born or died and request a duplicate copy of Village Sample Number 14 or Kotwal Book.

Examine the records for Kunbi entries, old revenue documents, clan inheritance records, land allotment records, Satbara Excerpts, 8A Excerpts, Alteration Purchase Deed, Lease Deed, Satbara prior to execution, Deeds How sheet, Right sheet, or any similar revenue documents indicating Kunbi caste.
