UNITED STATES : In a distressing trend, yet another Indian student, identified as Shreyas Reddy Benigeri, was discovered dead in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Thursday. This marks the third such incident within a week, raising alarm among students and their parents.
The cause of Benigeri's death remains unknown, adding to the growing unease surrounding these incidents. The Consulate General of India in New York stated that an investigation is underway, and foul play is not suspected at this stage. The consulate is actively in touch with Benigeri's family, providing all possible assistance.
This comes after the tragic death of Vivek Saini, a 25-year-old Indian student, who was bludgeoned to death by a homeless man in Georgia's Lithonia. Saini, who had recently completed his MBA, was attacked with a hammer after refusing further assistance to the homeless man he had been supporting. The incident occurred at a convenience store where Saini worked part-time.
In a separate case, Neel Acharya, a computer science student at Purdue University, was found dead on the university campus one day after he went missing. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, prompting police officials in West Lafayette, Indiana, to launch an investigation.
These consecutive incidents have sparked concerns within the Indian student community in the United States, emphasizing the need for authorities to address the safety and security of international students studying in the country.
