Imran Khan's PTI to Lead Opposition Despite Majority

Islamabad: Despite securing the most parliamentary seats in Pakistan's recent general election, Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has announced it will not form a coalition government with rival parties. Instead, PTI plans to sit in the opposition, according to party leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.

The Election Commission of Pak
istan announced that independent candidates, largely supported by PTI, won 101 seats, followed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) with 75 seats and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) with 54 seats. Although PTI initially aimed to form the government, it lacked the necessary seats.

Since PTI was unable to contest as a single party with a common symbol, it did not qualify for reserved seats, leading the party to opt for opposition benches. Gohar Ali Khan affirmed that PTI would form a robust opposition in Parliament.

Meanwhile, talks for a coalition government have begun between major parties, including PML-N and PPP. Negotiations involve discussions on leadership roles and the division of the government's five-year tenure. Shehbaz Sharif is being considered as a candidate for prime minister by PML-N, indicating an intriguing turn in Pakistan's political landscape.

The political dynamics are entering a decisive phase, with expectations that the new government setup will be finalized in the coming days.
